Barbados is not short of entertainment and there is always something going on somewhere, whether of the home-grown or imported variety. The island has produced musicians of excellent quality, both writers and performers of calypso, reggae, soca, gospel and other Caribbean styles, who play to knowledgeable and enthusiastic audiences. Live music can be found in bars and clubs several nights a week, when you might catch an established band with an international reputation or a new group testing the waters. Hotels will also lay on entertainment and are a frequent venue for steel pan music, folk dancing and mock carnival singing and dancing. You can also find invited artistes in drama, dance, cabaret and comedy who come for a week or so to put on a show or to take part in a festival.
