There is no home-grown film industry on Barbados, but you can find the latest Hollywood releases if you are stuck for something to do on a rainy day. A good range of films is shown, with plenty of choice for children as well as adults of all ages and tastes. The best place to go is the Multiplex at the Sheraton centre (see below), which is big enough to host events such as film festivals. In October 2002 it put on an African Caribbean Film Festival presented by the University of the West Indies Faculty of Humanities and Education and in January 2003 there was a Cuban Film Festival. Other cinemas have closed because of the competition from video clubs pirating films and releasing them at the same time as the film hits the cinemas. Globe, Upper Roebuck St, by roundabout, Bridgetown, T 4264692. US$4 for regular seats, US$5 for balcony. New releases and older classics. You get two films for your admission fee. Globe Drive In, Adams Castle, Christ Church, off the ABC Highway by the Sheraton Centre, T 4370479. Turn off at Garfield Sobers roundabout. Usually US$4 for two films. Sit under the stars to watch a movie. Same sort of selection as at the Globe. Olympus Theatres Multiplex, in Sheraton Centre, Christ Church, T 4371000, T 2285255 (room hire), http://www.olympustheatres.com Stadium style seating for 1,633 with six screens, all digital sound, showing films starting every 15 minutes from 1400 onwards. Other facilities include the Ambrosia Net Café and Ambrosia Jazz Café, with Mexican food and brochetas, music, art displays and high-speed internet access. Puppet shows are planned and there are occasionally live musical performances. Rooms can be hired for childrens birthday parties or conferences for adults (see above for phone number).
