There is something going on nearly every month in Barbados: carnival celebrations, sporting fixtures, music and cultural festivals, something for everyone. The main carnival is Crop Over, which celebrates the end of the sugar cane harvest. For about 30 years it went uncelebrated because of The Second World War and subsequent economic difficulties, but was resurrected for tourist purposes in 1974. Since then it has grown into a major celebration of Bajan culture enjoyed by all and nobody gets much work done during the five weeks that it lasts: more than a carnival, sweet fuh days. Many villages will also hold a street fair from time to time. For a diary of events and festivals see http://barbados.org/eventcd.htm
