Recommended for business visitors: there are computer sockets in the rooms, while suites have printers and fax machines, or you can use business centre. Earth-friendly bathroom goodies, gym, pool, on a rather rocky coastline but its only a short walk to a lovely beach with casuarina trees at the former Hilton and turtles come here to nest. LL-A Casuarina Beach Club, St Lawrence Gap, T 4283600, F 4281970, http://www.casuarina.com On a nice beach, 180 comfortable rooms with small kitchenette and balcony, bathrooms nothing special, but OK, TV, air conditioning, fan, pool for kids and swimming lane pool for adults, indoor and outdoor play areas, internet access, good activities desk, tennis, well- managed. Outstanding garden with flowering shrubs, begonias and variegated leaves, tall palms and casuarina trees obscure the hotel from the sea, look out for monkeys. Environmentally conscious, member of Green Globe, lots of recycling. Built in 1887 as Barbados’ first resort hotel with a spectacular cliff top setting, it is one of the most dramatic in the Caribbean. The Crane has an outstanding beach, good pool, tennis, luxury prices and is usually fairly quiet. Only 18 rooms with antique furnishings and hardwood floors, but an extra 250 timeshare units alongside have changed the character of the hotel. On a very wide beach, enough sand for volleyball etc, calm water with reef just offshore, perfect for families. A dedicated windsurfing resort with a Club Mistral centre open November-June, this is where the serious windsurfers come. 130 rooms and suites, spacious and well-equipped, good service, food dull, good beach but take care swimming, waves strong and high, children and weak swimmers should use the pools. D-E Beach House Cleverdale, Fourth Av, Worthing, T 4281035, F 4322990, http://www.barbados-rentals.com Looks like a chattel house from the outside, built in traditional style with wood and stone in a large tropical garden, only 15 m from Sandy Beach. You can rent rooms or the whole house. There are five double rooms, the four bigger ones have washbasins, two bathrooms, mosquito screens, large living/dining room with TV, CD, stereo, use of kitchen, veranda and barbecue for guests to share. Clean and good value, internet access arranged and help with finding alternative accommodation, run by Germans.
