The atmosphere of peccadillo is enticing and usually ensures you stay for much longer than planned. The prices are high (€5-8.50) and the cocktails deadly. Bar am Lützowplatz is known for its 17-m long bar and highly alcoholic cocktails, which are matched by rather high prices. A place for the rich and beautiful to meet. Situated at the edge of the futuristic Sony Center and as part of the Arsenal/Film Museum complex, Billy Wilder’s has all the trappings of a film bar. Decorated with pictures of Wilder’s classics such as Some Like It Hot, this hot and steamy bar is fairly pricey, but convenient on winter nights after a trip to the movies. The bar is small but apart from this there is plenty of room and a trip down the corrugated iron corridor to the toilets is some- what out of the ordinary. Sushi and Thai food are served from 1800 and an extensive list of wines, beers and cocktails is available. This ‘anchor den’ overlooking the Landwehrkanal is a slightly more Captain Pugwash than Captain Haddock but remains a chilled- out favourite. A funky, fishy design pervades throughout and the sandwich melts are reputedly the best in town. Note the jukebox with a complete catalogue of rock 'n' roll.
