Berlin attracts all the top international pop and rock acts. Recently the various concerts and stadiums have played host to the likes of Destiny's Child, Wyclef Jean, Kid Loco, Supertramp and Roger Waters. The venues in Berlin tend to be smaller than in London, which makes for a more intimate gig-like atmosphere. There are posters everywhere around Berlin advertising the latest offerings but the best way to find out what is going on is to check the listings. A smaller version of next door's Columbiahalle, this former US Forces cinema has recently played host to the likes of Gomez and Wyclef Jean. The artists tend to jump all over the place so don't worry if you're stuck at the back. With a capacity for 3,500 people the Columbiahalle is more popular with bands such as Status Quo, Nick Cave, Manic Street Preachers and Berlin's own Element of Crime. Having moved from its location in Potsdamer Platz to Ostbahnhof and finally to Anhalter Bahnhof, the Tempodrom has a slightly smaller capacity than Columbiahalle, but there is also a small area for 500 people next to it the Liquidrom, an aquatic concert hall (http://www.liquidrom.com">http://www.liquidrom.com) where the likes of Vanessa Mae and Melissa Etheridge have performed. Waldbühne, Glockenturmstr./Passenheimerstr., T 0180 53 32 433. U-Bahn Olympia-Stadion (Ost), S-Bahn Pichelsberg. An open- air venue in Charlottenburg that can hold up to 22,000 people. Recent acts have included Supertramp and Depeche Mode. Berlin provides an audience as well as many a venue for World Music. Fans will find that jazz fusion meets Afro Caribbean beats and Latin dance combines with Indonesian instrumental folk rock. There are many venues catering to all sorts of communities from Poland, Turkey, Russia, Brazil, Ireland and North Africa. Zitty, Tip and the Ex-Berliner will give information about events, but also tune into SFB4 MultiKulti radio on 106.8 FM. Hackesches Hof Theater, Rosenthalerstr. 40-41, T 28 73 25 87. S-Bahn Hackescher Markt. If you walk through to the second courtyard of the Hackescher Höfe complex you can't miss the signs advertising Yiddish concerts. The venue, which is small, is situated near the New Synagogue. It offers daily concerts of Yiddish and East European folk music. The House of World Cultures, located in the Tiergarten, is a leading centre for contemporary arts and a venue for projects designed to break artistic boundaries. It is Berlin's largest World Music venue. Fine arts, theatre, music, literature and film are shown and heard here, making it one of the city's most interesting cultural centres.
