Bilbo Rock, Muelle de la Merced s/n, T 944-151306. Atmospheric venue in a converted church, now a temple of live rock. Bands play most nights at 2100 or 2200. Bizitza, C Torre 1. Very chilled predominantly gay bar with a Basque political slant. Frequent cultural events. Braveheart, C Hurtado de Amézaga 22. Take yourself for a wee swallie at this friendly place. The theme continues behind the bar, where theres a good range of malt whisky. Cómics, C Principe 3. A cheery place with some interesting music and a very late last-drinks call at weekends. Compañia del Ron, C Máximo Aguirre 23. Friends of Ronald will be happy, with over 100 rums at the bar staffs disposal. A good early-evening spot, despite the chain-pub feel. Consorcio, C Barrencalle Barrena 10, T 944-169904. After getting past the imposing front wall youll find a decent pre-club bar which occasionally has events midweek too. Covent Garden, C Doctor Areilza 28. A dark wooden corridor of a pub, with some quirky decoration, including a model train which does laps of the place above head height. Gales, C Licenciado Poza 49. The name means Wales in Spanish, but this bar is definitely inspired from the other side of the Atlantic; kitted out with Aztec totems and motifs. K2, C Somera 10. One of the last to shut in the Casco on weeknights, this is quite a big bar with seating, a varied set of folk and exhibitions on the walls.
