K2, C Somera 10. One of the last to shut in the Casco on weeknights, this is quite a big bar with seating, a varied set of folk and exhibitions on the walls. Luz Gas, C Pelota 6, T 944-790823. A beautiful mood bar with an Oriental touch. Sophisticated but friendly, and you can challenge all-comers to chess or Connect-4. Mitote, Belostikale. From some angles this bar looks like a British bed n breakfast, while other views take in bizarre Botero frescoes. Quiet weeknights, at weekends its a cheerfully packed bar unwinding to unchallenging music. Try to visit a toilet before showing up. Scuba Duba, C Principe 1. Another late-opener on this tiny street. Popular music from Spain and the USA. Terranova, C Licenciado Poza 6 (corner of C Elkano). A bar with a good attitude and Friday chill-out music sessions. The Dubliners, Plaza Moyúa. You cant go out in Dublin any more, theres too many Irish pubs. The craze has well and truly hit Bilbao; this is the best known. Good after-work atmosphere, and a range of events through the week. Twiggy, Alameda de Urquijo 35. Psychedelic colours and a 60s feel characterize this bar in one of the busiest weekend hubs. Zulo, Barrenkale 22. A tiny nationalist bar with plenty of plastic fruit and a welcoming set who definitely dont follow the Bill Clinton line on non-inhalation. The name means hole in Euskara. Arrana, C Juan Calzada 6, Gernika. A vibrant Basque bar with a lively young crowd spilling outside at weekends.
