Bar Ondarra, Av de la Zurriola 16. Opposite the Kursaal exhibition centre in Gros, this is a decent bar with a small street level and an underground den featuring regular live jazz and soul. Bideluze, Plaza Guipúzcoa 14. Two floors of eccentric furniture on the south side of Plaza Guipúzcoa, serving food. El Ensanche, C San Vicente. Small but characterful perro and porro sort of Basque bar. El Nido, C Larramendi 13. A sizeable pub which fills after work and doesnt empty again until late. Friendly crowd and board games. Etxekalte, C Mari 11. On the harbour side of the old town, this is a popular and atmospheric place to hang out on a Saturday night. The music played is mostly jazz. Garagar, Alameda del Boulevard 22, T 943-422840. Slightly overpriced pub at the edge of the Parte Vieja with some comfy booths. Keeps em pouring until 0200 most nights (0400 at weekends), and its much more relaxing than some of the other tourist-oriented late-openers. DJ upstairs at weekends. Museo del Whisky, Alameda del Boulevard, T 943-426478, museo@telefonica.net As good as its name, with over 3,000 different bottles on site. Its a very relaxing place to sit back with a single malt, and theres a piano bar downstairs. The superb range of drams doesnt come cheap, however. Soma 107, C Larramendi 4, T 943-468810. Every facet of this remarkable bar is devoted to making the smoking of porros as chilled as possible. Its almost a dope centre rather than a mere bar, with internet, books, food, and two levels of seating sensitively decorated with cool murals, graffiti and paintings. There are quite a few bars on Zapatería, Correría and around Plaza de la Burullería, mostly weekend only, and plenty of bars around San Francisco and Fueros.
