Virgen del Carmen (16th) sees effigies of the Lady carried out to sea in a picturesque procession of fishing boats, particularly at Plentzia and Santurtzi on either side of the Bilbao estuary. Santiago's day (25th) is celebrated around the traps but particularly in Vitoria as the Día del Blusa (blouse day) when colour-co-ordinated kids patrol the streets. Hondarribia also celebrates with a slightly bizarre procession of a box of documents from the fishermen's guild to the local church. International Paella Competition (25th) in Getxo.
