Urepel, Paseo Salamanca 3, T 943-424040. A long and brooding restaurant with a fairly Spanish feel. The food is lighter, and the highlight is an elegantly treated shellfish. A good wine list accompanies the classy nosh. Barbarin, C Puerto 21, T 943-421886. A well-priced restaurant specialising in local seafood. The rollitos de txangurro, fried crab rolls, are especially tempting. Casa Gandarias, C 31 de Agosto 25, T 943-428106. A busy bar near the Santa María church with a pricy adjoining restaurant. The pintxos are good, but you virtually need a retina scan to use the bathroom. Ganbara, C San Jeronimo 21, T 943-422575. A fairly upmarket bar and asador with a worthwhile array of pintxos to accompany the cheerfully poured wine. Barandiaran, Alameda del Boulevard 28, T 943-429796. Despite its location, this is a very authentic café with a loyal local following drinking strong coffee and tumblers of wine. Café del Boulevard, Alameda del Boulevard 4. Good spot for brekkie or an evening drink and proof that Irish pubs dont have a monopoly on interesting bric-a-brac in these parts. Bar Garriti, C San Juán 8. An unglamorous bar with an impressive spread of pintxos during the day and early evening.
