Bilbao is no London or Madrid; its a relatively small place, and easily walkable. The Guggenheim Museum is an easy 15 minutes along the river promenade from the old town. Much of the charm of the Basque cities is absorbed simply by strolling around. The paseo, or txikiteo, is a particularly enjoyable time to be afoot; from about 1930-2030, everyone takes to the streets, with family or friends, and simply walks, with not a hint of hurry or destination. The old town is a focus for this, as is Bilbaos riverbank, San Sebastiáns beachfront, and Vitorias Calle Dato.
