Celtic Druid, via Caduti di Cefalonia 5, T 051-224 212. Open daily. Just off via Rizzoli. An Irish Pub with a name one would never find on the Esmerald Isle, but it does boast Irish staff and a happy hour from opening at 2030. This is the first port of call for ex-pat workers and the kind of place where everyone remembers your name. Cluricaune, via Zamboni 18, T 051-263419. Just around the corner from the Hotel San Donato. This Irish bar is more Irish than most you find in Ireland. But its vaulted ceilings and rickety wooden furnishings and barrels (unusually unkempt for Italy) do a good job of creating a dark and smokily traditional atmosphere. It is usually packed, mostly with students and the atmosphere is kicking. A good place to mix with the young locals, watch sport on TV and for the homesick to enjoy a good pint of Guinness. Contavalli, via Belle Arte, 2, T 051-268 395. Closed Sun. Odd but fun little aperitivo bar with art shows every so often. They also serve bruschetta and snacks in the back room. Da Matusel, via Bertoloni 2, T 051-231718. Closed Sat lunchtime and Sun. Meaning 'Mad Bird' this is a popular and noisy bar near the university. Insomnia, via de'Giudei 8, T 051-261552. Closed Mon. Trendy bar open until late with outdoor seating in the summer. Hollywood Party, via Goito, T 051-233199. Open late. Groovy bar attracting the cool and the cross-dressing crowd though the venue is a gay/straight mix. L'Antica Stuzzicheria, via Mascarella, no T. Crammed full of interesting odds and ends and with extremely genial staff, this is a bar full of dark intimate corners for clandestine jugs of wine and plates of cheese with your amore. Moodys, via Mascarella, 84/b, T 051-249510. Open until late. With happy hour prices from 2100-2330 you can't go far wrong for strong cocktails and loud music, with a restaurant round the back in case you find you just can't leave. Rose Selavy, via Marsala 5, T 051-271961. Super-chic restaurant/bar. Everything about this bar screams Lenny Kravitz from the zebra-print upholstery to the 'is that a small creature?' light shades. A place to see and be seen, with famously slow service.
