Bologna is a shopper's paradise for everything from food and clothes to antiques, bric-a-brac and hats. Not surprisingly for a university town, it is also well-stocked with bookshops. All of Italy's famous fashion designers and of course the local firms such as La Perla and Furla have typically stylish branches here, with prices still cheaper than outside Italy. And if you want to bottle some of the amazing tastes you've been feasting on in Bologna's restaurants there are plenty of delis and food shops for all tastes and waists.
Retail therapists should head for the via M d'Azeglio, via Farini and the catwalk-like Galleria Cavour arcade off Farini. Gourmets will have eyes bigger than their wallets and suitcases in the market streets of the Quadrilatero off piazza Maggiore.
Shopping hours are normally 0930-1300 and 1530-2000. Shoppers resident outside the European Union can claim tax refunds on their purchases. For more information on how to do, this contact Global Refund, http://www.taxfree@it.globalrefund.com
