Bravo, via Mascarella 1. A must for the Sunday brunch served from 1200-1600 where for a reasonable flat price you can eat as much as want from a delicious smorgasbord of cold Bolognese dishes, soups and cakes in hip contemporary surroundings with Bologna's affluent youth. In a bizarre statement of retro irony in this coffee-proud country Nescafé is the height of fashion here, served up by waitresses looking like Malboro girls. An Italian take on the greasy spoon and a great place to eat off a hangover. Del Museo, via Zamboni 58, T 051-246620. Early closing Sat. Closed Aug. Happy 'hour' Thu, 1830-2230. Welcoming and retro, dark wood, sofas, alcoves and mirrors, great for tête-à-tête and romantic drinks served by Felix the funny barman. Popular with students and professors who should be studying or lecturing. Del Teatro, via Zamboni 26, T 051-222623. Opposite Teatro Comunale and supposed place of invention of the festa della laurea (graduation party). Pleasant and decadent atmosphere. Del Rosso, via A Righi 30, T 051-236730. Closed Mon. Open since 1850 this place has a sombre and slightly empty atmosphere but the old building retains many of its original features. Local specialities and very good crescentine and tigelle. Golem caffe d'Arte, piazza San martino 3/b, T 051-262620. Closed Mon. In the heart of the old Jewish quarter this is a classy all-in-one joint popular with artists and intellectuals. The walls exhibit art and there are bookshelves, news- papers and boardgames. The bar also hosts live music, film projec- tions, and small theatre productions, while also producing fine cocktails and a decent menu. Effete, expensive but ultimately cool. Terzi, via Oberdan, 10, T 051-236470. Recently opened, this sophisticated café aims to recreate the experience of the coffee salons of Paris and Venice, but offers an untypical selection of coffees and teas. The cappuccinos come served with mouthwatering fresh gratings of dark chocolate. There is also a recherché selection of fine wines and, slightly more pretentiously, different waters, all of which can be consumed either at the bar or in the small but stylish salon at the back. A great place for a luxurious breakfast if you're staying at the Hotel Corona d'Oro. Whoopie, via Oberdan 24, T 051-271618. Popular café in this pedestrian street with outside tables. For a drink, snack or aperitif. Torinese, piazza re Enzo 1a, T 051-236743. Arguably home of the best hot chocolate in town. Rosa Rose, piazza Re Enzo. The sister café to the trendy bar-restaurant in via Clavature this is a chic new bar with animal print sofas and designer lamps.
