There are numerous trails mapped out in the hills with red triangles but it is best to obtain maps and the latest information from the tourist office or the CAI (Club Alpino Italiano), T 051-234856. The GEA (Grande Escursione Appenninica) is a 400 km trail mapped out in 1983 that traces the mountain range from Liguria to le Marche of which you might want to walk a section. There are various mountain refuges at which either to stop and eat or stay over. Rifugio Citta di Sarzana, T 0522-431166 is on the GEA. The CAI has details of others.
