Festa di San Luca Bologna's main festival. On Ascension Day a procession accompanies the icon of San Luca down along the magnificent colonnade from its sanctuary on the hill, through the Porta Saragozza and eventually to the Cathedral of San Pietro. Here the icon lies in state for a week, during which time a series of powerful masses are held, before it is then returned to its home. Matricole Today only an insipid echo of the animated and lewd 19th-century student initiation rituals. Addobbi This ceremony, which has lost its medieval richness, takes place every Sunday in May and June. In celebration of the arrival of the Eucharist procession the city's churches adorn themselves and the streets in colourful drapes and lights. Palio di San Giorgio (Ferrara) On the last Sunday in May, a medieval parade and horserace in the city centre.
