Great location right by the waves, simple set-up serving pub meals and good fresh fish and chips, great for a cool beer outside close to the waves. R Salty Sea Dog, next to Quayside Centre, Simons Town. 1200-1700. Cheap and cheerful place serving fresh fish and chips with seats overlooking the harbour. RRR De Volkskombuis, Old Strand Rd, T 021-8872121. 1200-1500, 1900-2100, closed Sun evening. A high standard of food and service, specialities are Cape dishes with strong European influences. Try the home-made oxtail or springbok pies. The atmosphere is enhanced by the character of the building, a restored Herbert Baker Cape Dutch homestead, with views across the Eerste River.
