R Pancho’s, Lower Main Rd, Observatory, T 021-4474854. 1200-2100. Mexican dishes in a lively atmosphere, all the usual tacos and fajitas, good home made nachos, nothing fancy but a fun place. Tasty cocktails.

RRR Black Marlin, Miller’s Point, 2 km from Simon’s Town, T 021-7861621. 1100-1500. Sea views and a wide range of fresh seafood, excellent crayfish, comprehensive wine list. Recommended, although it can get very busy with tour buses in summer.

RRR Bon Appetit, 90 St George’s St, Simon’s Town, T 021-7862412. 1200-1500, 1900-2300, closed Mon. One of the best restaurants in the area. Excellent French menu, very fresh ingredients, simple seafood and meat dishes, popular, book ahead.

RRR Horatio’s, Lord Nelson Inn, Simon’s Town, T 021-7861386. 1900-2200. This is the hotel’s smarter restaurant, serving good but pricey seafood and roasts.

RR Bay View Galley, on the beach at Fish Hoek, T 021-7823354. 1200-late. Serves continental dishes and a good choice of fresh seafood. Recommended.

RR Bertha’s, Quayside Centre, Wharf Rd, Simon’s Town, T 021-7862138. 1100-2300. A seafood grill and coffee house in the centre of town in a prime location overlooking the yacht harbour. During the day the outside terrace is a good place to enjoy good fresh seafood and watch the goings on in the harbour. Inside is a dining area perfect for large family meals. Great selection of fresh seafood dishes, good value. Recommended.

RR Café Pescado, 118 St George’s St (opposite Jubilee Square), Simon’s Town, T 021-7862272. 1100-2200. A popular family set-up serving some of the best seafood along the coast. Try the calamari and always check what the catch of the day is. Recommended.

RR Cape to Cuba, Main Rd, Kalk Bay, T 021-7883695. 1200-1600, 1900-late. Atmospheric Cuban restaurant and cocktail bar serving good-value seafood with a Caribbean edge. Great setting on the water’s edge with tables overlooking the harbour, funky decor, enjoyable Cuban music.
