Cape Town has a serious outdoors, get-fit lifestyle - the entire population seems to spend its free time jogging along the beaches, strapping itself on to bungee ropes or hiking up Table Mountain. Its equiclimate and excellent facilities make it a great destination for adventure sports cage diving with great white sharks, sandboarding on huge dunes, kitesurfing with the notorious southeasterly wind and paragliding from the top of Lion's Head as well as more sedate pursuits such as watching a cricket match or playing a round of golf. There are also a number of marathons and cycle races held during summer, although the most popular sport with young Capetonians remains surfing. Most of the backpacker hostels promote an impressive choice of activities. One of the best places to visit and find out about all the options on offer is a store called Adventure Village, 229 Long St, T 021-4241580, http://www.adventure-village.co.za
