The beaches on the Atlantic Seaboard are almost always too cold to swim in - even during the hottest months, the water temperatures rarely creep above 16°C. False Bay, however, is always a good 5°C warmer, and is perfectly pleasant for a dip during summer. Additionally, a number of beaches have artificial rock pools built by the water, which, although rather murky, can be perfect for paddling children. There are some very good municipal swimming pools in Cape Town, in Newlands, Sea Point and Woodstock. All are open air and have views of the mountain.
