The Danes are seriously sociable, so it is no surprise to find that the city boasts a large, ever-changing bar and club scene to meet the demands of a major European style-capital. The division between café, bar and club are somewhat blurred as most establishments are hybrid and metamorphe into each of them as the night progresses. It is not uncommon for a low-key brunch café to welcome an early evening lounge crowd in search of alcohol and a chillfactor and then pick up the pace with DJs playing until the early hours of the morning. Delicatessen, Krasnapolsky and Bang & Jensen are all good examples of this. Copenhageners dont start to kick their heels until at least 2400-0100, particularly at weekends, but stylish Scandinavian- style lounge bars with a warm, intimate and inviting atmosphere will keep you simmering until then.
There is no one definitive area for nightlife, but everything pretty much centres around Vesterbro, Nørrebro, Østerbro and the City. The great thing is that they are all close enough to sample a selection from several of them in any one night either by foot, city bike, or a short cab ride. Special one-off and try-out club and bar nights are plentiful, which makes the scene difficult to stay abreast of.Most bars and cafes stock a good range of promotional flyers and free newspapers that are worth checking out before you make a start. The weekly Copenhagen Posts In & Out guide contains a good day-by-day rundown in English.
