K Aløj Dee Take Away, Fiolstræde 30, T 33328206. Mon-Sat 1000-2100. Pretty good Thai take-away food but with a couple of tables and stools inside and a few outside on the pavement as well. Fine for a quick bite and a reminder of Thai tastes; at the Nørreport station end of Fiolstræde. K Café Glyptotek, Dantes Plads 7, T 33418141, http://www.glyptoteket.dk Tue-Sun 1000-1600. Overlooking the Winter Garden in the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek, the atrium café serves enticing goodies which, in the cultured surroundings, somehow seem to taste more edifying than one has been led to expect of home-made cakes and fruit tarts. K Café Paludan, Fiolstræde 10, T 33150675. 0800-2000. Fiolstræde was, for a long time, a rag-bag of a street but this bookshop café is part of its reinvention as a hip cultural ghetto for would-be intellectuals. The obligatory jazz music in the background, and over 20 kinds of coffee to accompany a croissant or two while reading Kierkegaard. K La Glace, Skoubogade 3, T 33144646. Mon-Thu 0830-1730, Fri 0830-1800, Sat 0900-1700. Agreeably old- fashioned pâtisserie, dating back to the 1870s, right down to the marble-top tables, and matronly waitresses serving hot chocolate, and cakes (from 21kr) with cream so pure and soft youd think there must be a cow or two at the back of the shop. The inside can feel a bit stuffy sometimes and there is one outdoor table on the pedestrianized street. KK-K Akvavit, Gammel Strand 44, T 33328844. Mon-Sat 1000-2400, Sun 1000-2200. More of a lifestyle café than a place for a hearty meal, Akvavits outdoor tables are usually full with beautiful people resting in the shade of broad umbrellas while gazing out at Christiansborg, and the pedestrians milling past. A good range of drinks, smørrebrød averaging 100kr each, salads and bagel sandwiches. K Galathea Kroen, Rådhusstrædet 9, T 33116627. Mon-Thu 1800-0200, Fri-Sat 1800-0500. A crowd of regulars testify to the satisfying mix of quality jazz and an Indonesian ristaffel of eat-all-you-want curry, as well as steaks, cigars and malt whiskies. Lots of character and enough artefacts hanging about the place to make you think youve stumbled into an ethnographic museum. K Kanal Caféen, Frederiksholms Kanal 18, T 33115770. Mon- Fri 1130-1900. Low-beamed, cosy interior and canalside tables outside looking across to Slotsholmen. Home- made pâté, curried herrings or poached and pickled with smoked eel, roast pork and pickles, gorgonzola with egg yolk, chicken and mayonnaise salad mostly in the 40-60kr range. K Øieblikket, Søren Kierkegaards Plads 1, T 33474747. Mon-Fri 1000-1900, Sat 1000-1400. On your right after entering the lobby of the Royal Library, this café is named after the publication that brought Kierkegaard into print and complements the Søren K restaurant . A fine spot for a light sandwich or quiche repast after visiting Christiansborg. K Slotskælderen hos Gitte Kik, Fortunstræde 4, T 33111537. Mon-Fri 1100-1500. A stones throw from the Folketinget (Danish Parliament), where you could spot Danish MPs if any of them were that famous, this is a good spot for its choice of smørrebrød.
