K Slotskælderen hos Gitte Kik, Fortunstræde 4, T 33111537. Mon-Fri 1100-1500. A stones throw from the Folketinget (Danish Parliament), where you could spot Danish MPs if any of them were that famous, this is a good spot for its choice of smørrebrød. K-KK Café Anton, Illum Department Store, Østergade 52, T 33144002. Mon-Thu 1000-1830, Fri 1000-1930, Sat 0900-1430. KK-K Café Petersborg, Bredgade 76, T 33125016. Mon-Fri 1145-1500, 1700-2030. What Danes call a hygee restaurant low-ceiling, exposed beams, wood panelling undeniably cosy and difficult to leave once settled around a table and stuck into the Danish-language menu. Smørrebrød lunch, around 45kr an item, while main courses tend to be meat-based and are in the 75-160kr bracket. Look, too, for the half-dozen or so specials. K Café Sommersko, Kronprinsensgade 6, T 33148189. Mon-Thu 0800-2400, Fri 0800-0200, Sat 0900-0200, Sun 1000-2400. This café has been around for ages and although spacious you can still be kept waiting for a table. Useful for a break from exhausting shopping on Købmagerade, with a vegetarian or meat brunch being the house specialty, from 84kr, and always good for a coffee break with tempting cakes and pastries. At night the place becomes more hip, competing with the Zoo Bar opposite (see below). K Mojo, Gothersgade 26, T 33320105. Mon-Thu 0800-2200, Sat 0930-2300, Sun 1030-2000. Open, Swedish- American style, surrounded by glass, with the de rigueur range of coffees, and sandwiches served with a choice of sauces for dipping into. On the corner of Gothersgade and Borgergade, the service at Mojo is refreshingly brisk and efficient. K DAngleterre, Kongens Nytorv 34, T 33120095. 1500-1700. For afternoon tea. Hardly the grand affair you might imagine and not a cucumber sandwich within nibbling distance, but the small buffet table is crammed with cakes, scones, oodles of cream and a choice of half a dozen teas and four quality coffees. Sedate in a modest way, soft music in the background, and for 82kr a way of whiling away an hour or so. K Bon Appetit, 15 Vesterbrogade, T 33311702. Mon-Fri 0700-1600. On the corner with Helgolandsgade, Bon Appetit has only a couple of bar stools to eat at and most customers are buying take-away rolls and smørrebrød for lunch; convenient to reach if staying in one of the Vesterbro hotels and fancying a light bite in your room. K Café Sius, Rosenørns Allé, T 35356463. Mon-Thu and Sun 1000-2400, Fri-Sat 1000-0200. Coffees from Guatemala, Sumatra, Colombia, and Ethiopia at this usefully located licensed café for anyone staying in one of the Cab Inns . The brunch, served until 1500 is 60kr but also salads, sandwiches, burgers, nachos. Outdoor tables, but close to the traffic. K Café Sokkelund, Smallegade 36, T 38106400. Mon-Sat 1000- 2130, Sun 1000-1900. Not too far from the Royal Copenhagen factory and in an area where there are none too many places for a decent lunch, the tapas plate of five different tapas for 56kr-85kr is worth a shout. Backgammon and chess can be played and there are occasionally evenings of live music.
