In terms of traditional ballet, there isnt as much as youd expect, and its pretty much monopolized by Den Gamle Scene (The Old Stage) of Det Kongelige Teater (The Royal Theatre). It often plays host to the Royal Ballet and good international companies and classical performances. The Peter Schaufuss Ballet company often puts in regular appearances at Det Ny Teater and, as it is responsible for the development of contemporary ballet in Denmark, should not be missed. Experimental and contemporary dance is plentiful, although, like most European capitals, companies are subject to harsh funding and subsequently come and go very quickly. The Nyt Dansk Danse Teater (NDDT) has very much been the company responsible for the development of contemporary dance in Denmark since its inception over two decades ago (formerly known as the Patterson Project). Tim Rushton is currently at its helm as artistic director and it produces around 70 performances per year and benefits from many international collaborations. Dansescenen, Østerfælled Torv 34, T 35435858, http://www.dansescenen.dk Copenhagens seminal dance venue. Det Ny Teatre, Gammel Kongevej 29, T 33255075, http://www.detnyteater.dk Regular contemporary family-orientated ballet productions, often by the Peter Schaufuss Ballet company. Kanonhallen, Østerfælled Torv 37, T 35432021, http://www.kanonhallen.net Outstanding repertoire of Danish and European contemporary/experimental dance. Tivoli Koncertsal/Plænen, Vesterbrogade 3, T 33151001. Two Tivoli stages that often welcome the Royal Ballet and high-quality dance performances.
