Gay Denmark is progressive and liberal. They were the first country in the world to recognise same-sex marriages back in 1989, and in 1999 it became possible for married same-sex couples to adopt the children of their partners.
In terms of the Copenhagen gay scene, it is very small. This is a product of the Danish population being gay-friendly and most bars and club being very mixed. There are however, still a number of bars, cafés and events that cater exclusively for gay clientele and positively signal gay visibility. What the scene lacks in size, it very makes up for with charm.
Radio Rosa (FM 91.4) is a popular gay radio station that broadcasts in Danish, and HC Ørsteds Park is a favourite well-known cruising ground for the gay population (its littered with bird boxes dispensing condoms).
