A-B Grand, Vesterbrogade 9, T 33276900 , F 33276901 , http://www.grandhotelcopenhagen.dk A four-star hotel, popular with English travellers, with a cosy and friendly atmosphere and the marvellous Frascati restaurant on the premises. Situated on the main road but not noisy from the inside; the rooms are not spacious and the lack of king-size beds deters Americans. B Mayfair, Helgolandsgade 3, T 33314801 , F 33239686 , http://www.themayfairhotel.dk Near the corner of Vesterbrogade and Helgolandsgade, the hotels superior rooms, unlike the regular, less expensive ones, have a bath. A bar on the premises but no restaurant; centrally located, though the decor is a little tired, perhaps. B-E Absalon, Helgolandsgade 15, T 33242211 , F 33243411 , http://www.absalon-hotel.dk Less than five minutes from the station, a friendly and efficient hotel with free use of internet for guests and a range of room types to suit most budgets. The cheapest single/double/triple rooms at 495/650/850kr share washroom facilities while the main hotel block has smartly furnished doubles at 1100kr, but also singles and triples and, on the 5th floor, more expensive rooms with classy decor and extras. A popular hotel; advanced booking recommended. B-D Nebo Mission, Istedgade 6, T 33211217 , F 33234774 , http://www.nebo.dk Clean, well-furnished two-star hotel with a pleasant breakfast room, no restaurant. Some of the bedrooms having a bath and others just a shower, and the least expensive rooms at 730kr share bathroom facilities. C-D DGI-byens, Tietgensgade 65, T 33298050 , F 33298059 , http://www.dgibyen.dk If arriving by train, look for the hotel as the train draws into the station and take the rear exit from the station. Grey-coloured tone to the building, but not a grey aesthetic for what is one of the few city hotels that fulfils ones expectations of Scandinavian style and Danish modernism dinky reception desk, design-conscious details, lines of Danish poetry on the bedroom walls, sleek, uncluttered, un-naff. Superb swimming pool and sports facilities adjoin the hotel. C Savoy, Vesterbrogade 34, T 33267500 , F 33267501 , http://www.savoy hotel.dk Over 60 rooms, from singles to family rooms sleeping four, some with showers and some with baths. Tea- and coffee-making facility in the rooms, cable television, a courtyard terrace, and a restaurant (closed on Mon). If you can get a reduction off the rack rates, the Savoy is not bad value as the place has a touch of character. C-E Selandia, Helgolandsgade 12, T 33314610 , F 33314609 , http://www.hotel-selandia.dk Under the same management as the Absalon but a quieter building, dating from the late 1920s, and a less bustling atmosphere around check-out times. The light and airy breakfast room (note the clever trick painting on the wall) also has a calmer mood and the bedrooms tend to be better than Absalons standard ones. All the bedrooms, whether sharing bathroom facilities or not, have television and trouser press. C Top Hotel Hebron, Helgolandsgade 4, T 33316906 , F 33319067 , http://www.hebron.dk Closed over Christmas. The decorative features that distinguish the Hebron mostly date back to its opening over a century ago though there are some modern touches like the zappy lighting system over the stairs and the hotel is in good nick throughout. The superior rooms, 1040kr as opposed to 950kr for the standard doubles, are large and have baths. D Centrum, Helgolandsgade 14, T 33313111 , F 33233251 , centrum.hotel@adr.dk The bedrooms, with tiny televisions, steel-framed beds, and showers, have a mix of faded furniture alongside some more modern pieces. The 1970s leather sofa and armchairs in the lobby suggest the Centrum has seen better days, but the breakfast room is pleasant enough and prices are competitive.
