KKK Skt Gertruds Kloster, Hauser Plads 32, T 33146630, http://www.sgk.as 1600-0200. A medieval monastery setting and a dining experience. Pre-dinner drinks served in a library setting before diners move to one of the candle-lit dining areas where modern Danish cuisine is served. The wine cellar can be visited, and a wine menu is an option with meals. Menu from 425-690kr. KKK-KK LAlsace, Ny Østergade 9, T 33145743, http://www.alsace.dk Mon-Sat 1130-2400. Set meals and daily specials that approach the exquisite. Spoil yourself with the salade gourmandise (shrimps, lobster and foie gras), and the rhubarb gateau is a firm favourite after one of the fish courses. Always a vegetarian main course, set meals from under 350kr to nearly 500kr. Menu in French and Danish. KKK Cap Horn, Nyhavn 21, T 33128504. 1130-2300. Consistently good smørrebrød and authentic herring table. Lively night-time atmosphere when an outdoor table often requires a reservation. The food is modern Danish with a continental inflexion, bare floorboards and a comfortable bar area. Bizarre menu arrangement that starts with the desserts. KKK Egoisten, Hovedvagtsgade 2, T 33127971. Mon-Sat 1200- 1500, 1800-2300. If Nyhavn is too clamorous for your liking, consider retreating to the other side of Kongens Nytorv and checking out the food scene in Egoisten. New owners are changing everything and the prospects look good, with the menu still in the process of inventing itself. Expect oysters and lemon or herrings and potato salad for lunch and, at night, attractively presented fish and meat dishes at reasonable prices. KKK Sult, Vognmagergade 8, T 33743417. Tue-Sat 1800-2400. Inside the Danish Film Institute and named after the novel by Knut Hamsun (Sult means hunger), the name also plays on the word Sult (End) which appears at the end of Danish films. New-York style restaurant creating Mediterranean dishes with panache, like slow-baked tomatoes with smoked mozzarella, lamb with figs and cumin on couscous. KKK Zeleste, Store Strandstræde 6, T 33160606. 1100-2230. For quality cuisine Zeleste more than matches the trendy restaurants on Nyhavn, and for atmosphere book one of the courtyard tables. The main draw is the fish, with terrific starters of lobster or steamed mussels, competing with the asparagus and truffles, and the popular Sunday brunch needs a reservation. Voted in 2002 as having the most romantic courtyard restaurant in the city. Enjoy the best of both worlds with excellent food at Zeleste and a pre- or after-dinner drink around the corner on Nyhavn at Nyhavn 17 (live music after 2100). KK-KKK Els, Store Strandstræde 3, T 33141341. Mon-Sat 1200-1500, 1730-2200, Sun 1730-2200. The murals of this classy-looking and cosy restaurant date back to the 19th century when the building was an elegant coffee house patronized by theatre folk from the nearby Royal Theatre. Set three- and four-course meals keep prices within the mid-range bracket but à la carte spiced lamb or duck push into the expensive category. KKK Alberto K, Radisson SAS Royal Hotel, Hammerischsage, T 33426161. Mon-Fri 1200-1500, Mon-Sat 1800-2400. Exquisite Italian-Scandinavian cuisine on the 20th floor of the famous Jacobsen-designed hotel , using the cutlery that the architect designed and his legendary Syveren (The Seven) chair. Panoramic views of the city (reserve a table on the town hall side) and a sybaritic six-course menu for 695kr: starters like cappuccino of green peas with fjord shrimps and chanterelles and dishes like truffle risotto and sautéed lobster, or a choice of dishes can be chosen (from 365-645kr). Lunch is a two-course affair; Italian wine list.
