Dotted Line

K Kammercaféen, Havneplasdsen 1, T 49282052. 0900-1800. Near to the station, in the customs house building behind the tourist office, this café is fine for a coffee or a light meal. The café in the railway station itself is pleasant enough and offers quick meals like goulash for under 50kr.

K Ophelia, Hotel Hamlet, Bramstræde 5, T 49210591. 1030-2100. The Shakespeare connection is not milked to death in Helsingør so the occasional name-dropping is forgivable. A pleasant hotel restaurant where a comfortable smørrebrød lunch can be enjoyed, or an evening meal of traditional Danish dishes.

K Rådmand Davids Hus, Strandgade 70, T 49261043. 0900-2000. Cross over the road from the railway station, walk up Brostræde by the tourist office and Strandgade runs across at the next intersection, with Rådmand Davids Hus to the left. The daily lunch of traditional Danish fare is good value at around 70kr.

K World, Bramstræde 1, T 49201126. 1130-2300. Opposite Helsingør’s railway station, the World certainly looks like a Chinese restaurant and so does the menu, although there are some concessions to non-Oriental tastes like the Irish coffee that rounds off the special menu for two people, 118kr each.

KK-K Raadhuskælderen, Stændertorvet, Roskilde, T 46360100, http://www.raadhuskæ;lderen.com 1130-1600, 1700-2200. With 15th-century cellar rooms, bare red brick walls, porches and vaults still visible, Raadhuskælderen can muster some atmosphere at night. Lunch could be herrings, onions and capers, or plaice, asparagus and caviar at one of the garden tables; dinner has main courses like smoked pork, or home-made lobster bisque laced with cognac for 88kr.

KK-K Snekken, Viking Ship Museum, Vindeboder 16, Roskilde, T 46359816, http://www.Snekken.dk 1130-2100. Large and airy, glass-fronted restaurant with outdoor tables facing the fjord and a jazzy restaurant inside serving dishes like veal carpaccio with couscous and Parmesan (74kr), veal and grilled mango and foie gras sauce (188kr), and cold rhubarb with elderflower soup and pistachio ice cream. Lunch, until 1600, includes a tasty salad and salmon for 68kr, or the Snekken plate with four kinds of specialties for 108kr.

KK Brasserie Kong Christian, Slotsgade 59, T 48245350, http://www.brasserie-kong-christian.dk 1000-2200. Lunch and dinner menus at reasonable prices. Outdoor tables in the summer, with castle views, but the interior is not too exiting.

KK El Castillo’s Cantina, Slotsgade 61, T 48261911. 1600-2300. A comfortable cantina-style setting of bright colours with a hanging Mexican carpet and brass lamps. A set meal is about 130kr. If the opening time is inconvenient, try Hennessy’s Irish pub down the street.

KK-K Izakaya Koi, Lilla Torg 5, T 6112020. Mon-Thu 1130-0100, Fri-Sat 1700-0200, Sun 1700-0100. Authentic Japanese cuisine but expect some surprises, like cheese and guacamole in the sushi. Prices average about 200kr per person; outdoor tables in the summer and DJ music inside at weekends.
