Copenhagen is a remarkably compact and small city. Many of the principal places of interest are within walking distance, and along the way you are likely to find yourself unashamedly shopping or browsing through the design shops. Excursions to major attractions like the Louisiana Gallery of Modern Art are easily organized and you could be standing in front of a Warhol in less than an hour after closing your hotel room. May and June and the autumn period are ideal times, especially if getting a suntan or enjoying a summer festival atmosphere is not high on your list of priorities. The winter months are not forbiddingly cold, but temperatures commonly fall below zero between January and March, and the short daylight hours combined with a relentless grey sky will not enliven your spirits. Christmas is a twinkly affair but also a big family affair consequently quite a lot of places close down on the day so as to celebrate in the home. In April the mini- mum temperature is about 3°C reaching the low 20°sC in June to August, and levelling out at around 10°C in September and October. The price of a hotel room tends to increase in high season (July and August). Places are booked well in advance so make your reservations for rooms and restaurant tables in good time.
