One of the best parts of town for antique shopping is Francis Street, where you’ll find a whole cluster of shops selling antiques and bric-a-brac.

Coyle Antiques, 74 Francis St, T 01 454 2696. Mon-Sat 1100-1700. Domestic 19th- and 20th-century furniture, pottery and paintings.

Esther Sexton Antiques, 51 Francis St, T 01 473 0909 Mon-Sat 1100-1700. Edwardian and Victorian furniture.

Gordon Nichol, 67-8 Francis St, T 01 454 3322 Mon-Sat 1130-1730. Furniture and architectural fittings.

Powerscourt Centre, 59 South William St, T 01 679 4144. Mon-Wed, Fri and Sat 1000-1800, Thu 1000-2000, Sun 1200-1800. The first floor of this upmarket shopping arcade has half-a-dozen classy antique shops selling antique jewellery, decorations and furniture. There are no big bargains here, but lots of authenticity.

Renaissance, 41 Camden St, T 01 475 2461. Mon-Wed, Fri, Sat 1100-1800, Thu 1100-2100, Sun 1400-1800. More at the junk end of the market, with chandeliers, mirrors, furniture, paintings, old pub fittings and bric-a-brac.
