One of a chain of great fish-and-chip caffs, Beshoffs has a pleasantly scruffy Edwardian interior that provides a perfect setting in which to dig into a mound of authentic grub. The first Beshoffs was opened by Ivan Iylanovich, a survivor of the 1905 mutiny aboard the battleship Potemkin. Kudos, Clarion Hotel, Excise Walk, T 01 433 8844. Daily 1200-2030. Three wok stations conjure up some innovative and tasty combinations of European and Asian cuisine for very decent prices in this new, laid-back bar in the riverside Clarion Hotel. A Russian-themed café bar that does wraps and baguettes, though people come to Pravda to drink rather than eat. Zanzibar, 36 Ormond Quay Lower, T 01 878 7212. Daily 1700-0230. This vast, youthful place reputedly cost squillions to build and is heavily themed with palm trees and Middle Eastern décor. The bar food is substantial, ranging from nachos to chicken and steak dishes and even a vegetarian effort. If you dont like crowds of drunken youth, dont visit: although Zanzibar holds about 1,500, theres usually a queue at weekends. Scotts Café, 17 George St Upper, Dun Laoghaire, T 01 280 2657.
