Dublin has a good selection of mainstream multiplexes, both in the city centre and the suburbs. The largest is the nine-screen UGC complex in the Parnell Centre at the top of OConnell Street. For something a little more esoteric, the Irish Film Centre in Temple Bar offers a healthy alternative to Hollywood and hosts free outdoor movie screenings in the summer, using one wall of Meeting House Square as a huge cinema screen. Look out, too, for the arthouse fare on offer at the Screen in DOlier Street. The Dublin Film Festival usually takes place in March or April and is followed by a French Film Festival in November. Irish Film Centre, 6 Eustace St, Temple Bar, T 01 679 3477. Daily 1330-2130. E5.80 afternoon shows, E6.30 evening shows. The centre shows a mixture of independent, foreign and arthouse films as well as documentaries and seasons of a particular directors work.
