Dublins light railway system, the DART (Dublin Area Rapid Transit) links the coastal suburbs with the city centre. It is useful for short hops between the north and the south of the city and for transport to hotels and places of interest in some suburban areas. The system operates from Howth and Malahide in the north to Greystones, County Wicklow, in the south. It is supplemented by the Northern Suburban Line to Dundalk, the Southern Suburban Line to Arklow, the Western Suburban Line between Connolly Station and Mullingar and the Arrow Line from Heuston Station to Kildare. The trains are clean and fast but get very crowded during the rush hours. Note that bikes are not permitted on the DART. Tickets can be bought from all DART stations or from the Rail Travel Centre at 35 Abbey Street Lower. A Short Hop ticket provides unlimited travel on Dublin Bus, suburban rail and DART services for a single day; Four-Day Explorer and Weekly Short Hop tickets are also available.
