The citys greatest attraction is its looks. First up, get yourself to the top of Calton Hill, giving you the perfect opportunity to find your bearings, as well as to enjoy some fantastic views and to realise that Edinburgh is a small city and everything you need is within easy walking distance. If you're feeling energetic head down to the Palace of Holyroodhouse for a peek at the groovy new Scottish Parliament building, still under construction at time of going to press. From here, there are several options. You can take a tour round the palace, visit Dynamic Earth, one of Edinburgh's most successful new attractions, or take a walk up Arthur's Seat, a real, bona fide mountain wilderness right in the heart of the city. For something a little less strenuous explore the Water of Leith Walkway, which winds its bucolic way from the west of the city to Leith. Along the way you can make a few cultural diversions by popping in to the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art and the Dean Gallery, on opposite sides of Belford Road. Further east, the Water of Leith passes close by the Royal Botanic Garden, surely worth an hour or two of anyone's time.
