You could be forgiven for thinking that once the Festival had packed its bags and gone, Edinburgh would be so exhausted that it would go into cultural hibernation, to appear refreshed and ready for the next one. Not a bit of it. True, the city's legendary festivals represent the single greatest arts extravaganza anywhere on the planet, but Edinburgh's citizens are up for a bit of cultural entertainment at any time. Instead of lying dormant for 48 weeks of the year, the theatres and concert halls play host to a vast range of local and touring productions everything from Bach to Berkoff and even the hungriest movie buff could not fail to be sated by the city's cinematic fare on offer at its wonderful little arthouse film theatres. Edinburgh is also the dance capital of Scotland, with the completion of Dancebase, the new multi-million pound National Centre for Dance.
