There are many fine golf courses around Edinburgh, especially along the coast of East Lothian, but most are private. The best of these are at Gullane (Nos 1, 2 and 3), T 01620-842255, Muirfield, T 01620-842123, and North Berwick, T 01620, 895040. Prices for a weekday round range from £17 for Gullane No 3 up to £85 for Muirfield. Public courses in and around the city include the two at Braid Hills, T 447 6666, Silverknowes, T 336 3843, Torphin Hill, T 441 4061, and Lothianburn, T 445 2288. If you plan on playing a lot of golf, then you should buy the Lothian and Edinburgh Golf Pass, which allows you to play on 20 courses throughout the region at discounted rates.
