Give in to your inner tourist and take a guided bus tour on board an open-top double-decker bus with a multi-lingual guide. These depart every 10-15 minutes from Waverley Bridge, the first one leaving around 0900 and the last one between 1730 and 2000, depending on the time of year. The complete tour lasts an hour, stopping at the main tourist sights including the Castle, Royal Mile, Palace of Holyroodhouse, New Town and Royal Yacht Britannia. Tickets are valid for the full day and you can hop on and off any of the company's buses at any of the stops. Also recommended, but not for those of a nervous disposition, are the many ghost tours. These last between one and two hours and take place daily throughout the year. Tickets can be booked in advance directly through the companies listed below, or at the tourist office, or simply turn up at the departure point on the night.
