Mon-Sat 1100-2400, Sun 1230-2400. This East End pub claims to be the oldest in town, and its low ceilings and wooden beams support a convincing argument. It's also the best place in town for folk music , and much-frequented by writers, poets and drinking thinkers (or thinking drinkers). The Victoria Bar, 159 Bridgegate, T 0141-552 6040. Mon-Sat 1100-2400, Sun 1230-2400. Real traditional howff in one of Glasgows oldest streets. Seemingly unchanged since the late 19th century and long may it stay that way. Part of the legendary club, this stylish basement bar is the ideal place to get hyped before heading in to one of their many popular club nights. This converted warehouse is Glasgows original style bar and still as cool as ever. Good food on offer and a popular pre-club meeting place at weekends with regular DJs. Bar Soba, 11 Mitchell La, T 0141-204 2404. Mon-Sat 1000-2400, Sun 1100-2400. Theres a 1970s feel to this bar on the ground floor of The Lighthouse. Soba manages to combine being a bar with a great club feel. Food is Asian fusion and the cocktails are good. Bloc, 117 Bath St, T 0141-574 6066. Mon-Thu and Sun 1200-2400 (food served until 1900), Fri, Sat 1200-0200 (food served until late). Another Bath Street style bar, with good DJs and food thats a mix of Eastern European and Far Eastern flavours. It gets nice and buzzy attracting a lively pre-club crowd.
