Looks and feels like a real Highland hostelry. Cosy and welcoming and serving ridiculously cheap food. Scottish in every sense, and 135 whiskies to choose from too. Sammy Dows (as its known by its many Shawlands regulars) is a friendly Southside local serving good real ales (Deuchars, plus a selection of guest ales) and cheap bar food. Also hosts regular live music nights and a Thu jam session. The Taverna, 778 Pollokshaws Rd, T 0141-424 0858. Popular Southside venue near the Tramway Theatre and Queens Park. Nice, bright Mediterranean look and feel which extends to their love of kids. Good selection of ales and European beers, with everything from Belgian, Czech and German brands to choose from. They also do good value Mediterranean food, especially their pre-theatre dinner. Tusk, 18 Moss Side Rd, T 0141-649 9199. Opulent Asian interior at this popular Southside style bar a huge Buddha watches over proceedings. Theyve got a restaurant too.
