There are direct flights to Glasgow International Airport almost hourly from London Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Luton airports. There are also daily flights from provincial UK airports and from Dublin. There are a number of low cost airlines which regularly offer cheap flights if you book online, but check for hidden surcharges. You'll often have to travel at inconvenient times and the flights are subject to restrictions. They are non-refundable, or only partly refundable, and non-transferable. A flexible and refundable fare from London to Glasgow or Edinburgh will cost at least £150-200 return. Fares are highest from around early June to mid-September, which is the tourist high season, and drop mid-September to early November and mid-April to early June. They are cheapest in the low season, from November to April. The exception is during Christmas and New Year when prices rise sharply. Flying at the weekend is normally more expensive. Airport information Glasgow International Airport (T 0141-887 1111, http://www.baa.co.uk/glasgow), is 8 miles west of the city, at junction 28 on the M8. It handles domestic and international flights. Terminal facilities include car hire, bank ATMs, currency exchange, left luggage, tourist information (T 0141-848 4440) and shops, restaurants and bars. There's also a Travel Centre (T 0141-848 4330), daily 0800-2200 in summer and till 1800 in winter) in the UK arrivals concourse, and a First Options Hotel (T 0141-848 4731) and travel reservations desk in the international arrivals concourse. To get into town take a Glasgow Airport Link bus from outside the arrivals area. They leave every 15 minutes to Buchanan bus station, with drop-off points at Central and Queen Street train stations (25-30 mins, £3.30 single, £5 return). Tickets can be bought from the driver. Buses to the airport leave from Buchanan Street bus station and stop outside the main TIC (see below). A taxi from the airport to the city centre costs around £17. Trains to and from Central Station leave every 30 minutes (45 mins; £5, £2.50 single if you show your Ryanair ticket).
