The home of the generally excellent Scottish Opera and Scottish Ballet, also regularly hosts large-scale touring theatre and dance companies and orchestras. 13th Note Café, 50-60 King St, T 553 1638. Downstairs at the Note is a superb venue which showcases unsigned bands and new talent. It supports everything from indie to metal and is worth wandering down to just to sample some new talent, both local and from further afield. 13th Note Club, 260 Clyde St, T 0141-243 2177. Like the café, the club also plays host to unsigned bands as well as some more well-known names who need a slightly bigger space. Arches, 253 Argyle St, T 0901-0220300. Underneath the railway tracks of Glasgow Central station lies this venue which houses a theatre, bar, restaurant and club. It regularly has live bands either performing a small gig, as part of a festival, or taking part in one of their famous club events such as the Sunday Social. Barrowlands, 244 Gallowgate, T 0141-552 4601. The 'Barras' is the best place in Glasgow, if not the UK, to see a live gig. Its previous use was as a ballroom so it has everything just right to create a fantastic atmosphere with bands. Blackfriars, 36 Bell St, T 0141-552 5924. A Merchant City favourite featuring live jazz in the basement Thu-Sat. Bourbon Street, 108 George St, T 0141-552 0141. This bizarre bar and restaurant has live music events which you can enjoy while dining. The bands are normally tribute bands to Abba, The Beatles and the like. Cathouse, 15 Union St, T 0141-248 6606. Glasgows only rock club also plays host to many a smaller rock gig before the club opens. Ideal for seeing bands before they make it big. Clyde Auditorium, Finnieston Quay, T 0141-287 7777. Also known as the Armadillo for obvious reasons, this eye-catching venue looks like a mini Sydney Opera House and tends to feature more highbrow, big-name acts.
