££ Cottier’s, 93-95 Hyndland St, T 0141-357 5825. Mon-Thu 1200-1600, 1700-2230, Fri-Sat 1200-1600, 1700-2300; Sun 1200-2230. Very elegant Caribbean style restaurant housed in a converted church. The food is heavenly and the ambience spiritually rewarding. These dear souls are also great with kids, bless them. Stylish bar and theatre downstairs on the ground floor where you can often hear live music .

££ Cul de Sac, 44-46 Ashton La, T 0141-334 6688. Sun-Thu 1200-2300, Fri-Sat 1200-2400. Effortlessly fashionable, laid back and oh, so boho. A great place to sit back, soak up the atmosphere and enjoy good French-style food. Their famous crêpes are half price between 1700 and 1900, as are the tasty burgers and pasta. Good vegetarian choices too, and it’s a great place to work off last night’s excesses with a hearty Sunday brunch.

££ Gingerhill, 1 Hillhead St, T 0141-956 6515. Wed-Sun 1930-2130. Well off the beaten track in posh Milngavie, but well worth the trip. Has a reputation as one of Glasgow’s best seafood restaurants. It’s an awfy wee place so you’ll have to book well in advance. No smoking. BYOB (no licence).

Sleek new venture housed in an old cinema that is already proving popular with the locals. Lots of sharing platters and Italian and Mexican influences. Brunch served at weekends.

££ Killermont Polo Club, 2022 Maryhill Rd, T 0141-9465412. Daily 1200-2300. An exclusive, elegant Indian restaurant that offers a genuinely new culinary experience with their astonishing Dum Pukht (slow-cooked) menu. A bit out of the way, but worth it for something out-of-the-ordinary.

Exquisite Indian cooking in chic, bistro-style surroundings. Among the unusual dishes on the menu is smoked haddock in Punjabi spices. Surprisingly affordable prices that won’t put undue strain on your wallet. There’s a friendly and informal atmosphere and a refreshingly strong vegetarian selection. Cheap set lunch and good banquet menus. BYOB.

££ Mr Singh’s India, 149 Elderslie St, T 0141-204 0186. Mon-Sat 1200-2400 Sun 1430-2400. Imagine good Punjabi cooking brought to you by kilted waiters with a background wallpaper of disco music. If that sounds like your cup of char then get on down here and join in the fun. Many celebs have, so you never know who might pop in for a poppadum. Very child friendly.

££ Oblomov, 372-374 Great Western Rd, T 0141-339 9177. Mon-Fri 1600-2200, Sat, Sun 1100-2200, bar open later. An arty West End crowd fills this eaterie, named after a novel by 19th-century Russian writer Ivan Goncharov. That’s pretty well where the East European theme ends as food is more modern bistro style with some more exotic dishes like Japanese-style chicken, as well as mains like pasta and burgers. There’s also a very popular brunch menu available at weekends.
