People often forget that this great industrial city is within half an hours drive of some of Scotlands most stunning scenery. Loveliest of all is Loch Lomond, heart of Scotlands first National Park, and easily reached from Glasgow. Once here you can simply stroll by the water, go canoeing or hire a bike. The citys also an excellent base for walkers, whether you want to get out and about on the hills or just do some gentle rambling. The West Highland Way long distance path starts from the leafy Glasgow suburb of Milngavie and runs for 92 miles, all the way to Fort William. A classic section runs beside Loch Lomond. For those who prefer their walks punctuated by the thwack of a golf ball, there are several golf courses around, including the swish ones of Turnberry and Royal Troon. If youre a footie fan, its well worth catching an Old Firm game between arch rivals Celtic and Rangers, the teams that dominate the Scottish league. There is more spectator sport at the Kelvin Hall Sports Arena which hosts an array of sporting events including athletics, boxing and gymnastics.
