It is also a popular time for Chinese opera performances. Feast of Maidens (Seven Sisters) Dedicated to girls and young lovers, the origins of this festival go back around 1500 years into the mists of Chinese folklore and the legend of a maiden weaver who was fixed her up by her father with a cow-herder. However, she neglected her weaving, provoking him to restrict her wifely duties to just the seventh day of the seventh moon. To mark the occasion, young women make offerings, burn incense and gather around Lovers Rock on Bowen Road in Wan Chai.
