Beverley Commercial Centre, 87-105 Chatham Rd, Tsim Sha Tsui. Most shops open in the afternoons and close around 2300. Tiny stalls selling unusual clothes, shoes and accessories.

Chater House, Chater Rd, Central. For serious shoppers seeking the likes of Armani, Prada and Bvlgari, with tasteful florists and cosmetics stores. Links by walkway to Prince’s Building, with a similar range.

Festival Walk, Tat Chee Av, Kowloon Tong. 1030-2000. Huge, with a great feeling of space, yet relatively uncrowded. Has good selection of mid-range stores like Esprit, Mango and Wrangler, plus an ice-skating rink, cinemas and great restaurants.

The Landmark, 16 Des Voeux Rd, Central. An elegant mall set around a huge central atrium, with designers like Versace, Dior, and Armani. Links up with Prince’s Building.

Lane Crawford, 70 Queen’s Rd, Central, T 2118 3388. 1000-1900, Mon-Sat. 1-3 The Mall, Pacific Pl, 88 Queensway, Admiralty, T 2845 1838. 1000-2100. Hong Kong’s oldest western-style department store, catering to the city’s wealthiest and most chic with top designer labels and only the best in household wares.

Pacific Place, 88 Queensway, Admiralty. Spacious, spread over four floors, its stores range from casual wear, fashion boutiques to top designers. Also has cinemas and restaurants.

Seibu, 88 Queensway Pacific Pl, T 2877 3627, 2868 0111. 1030-2000 Sun-Wed, 1030-2100 Thu-Sat. Windsor House, 311 Gloucester Rd, Causeway Bay, T 2890 0333. One of Japan’s largest department stores housing an upmarket collection of chic designers, mainly European, houseware and gifts, and a great food department with imported items unavailable elsewhere.

Sogo, 555 Hennessy Rd, Causeway Bay, T 2833 8338. 1100-2300. Huge Japanese department store with designer clothes, accessories, electrical and household goods, shoes, cosmetics, and a popular Japanese supermarket. Information and money exchange counter on the ground floor.

Times Square, 2 Matheson St, Causeway Bay. Set over nine floors, this is a popular meeting place and has a wide variety of outlets, including a great food court in the basement. Dazzling decorations outside especially during major festivals.
