Dragon Boat Festival Stanley Residents Association, 96 Stanley Main St, T 2813 0564, http://www.dragonboat.org.hk Also known as Tuen Ng festival, this commemorates the death of a Chinese national hero, Qu Yuan, who drowned himself in Mi Lo River over 2000 years ago to protest against corrupt rulers. Villagers beat drums to scare away the fish and stop his body being eaten. Since 1975 this has been celebrated with dragon boat races, including over 100 teams from all over the world. Each boat has 20-22 paddlers, a carved dragons head at the bow, with one person beating a huge drum.
