The tacky decor a huge red cow awaits you at the entrance is amply compensated for by the views. A truly romantic dining experience, in a luxurious colonial setting with 20 tables clad in crisp white cotton, high ceiling fans and a fabulous sea view. The French menu includes fillet of venison scented with green tea, black pepper steak cooked at your table, and Boston lobster salad. Also serves afternoon tea, 1500-1730, and the buffet Sunday lunch, 1100-1430, is hugely popular booking essential. This tiny but stylish restaurant with tasteful decor looks more like a simple café, although the menu is anything but. Wonderful soups are followed by grilled lamb chops with thyme or sea bass fillet. Adjacent to The Verandah, but with the advantage of a terrace (and cheaper), the menu offers Thai, Vietnamese and Indian dishes with plenty of vegetarian options. Opposite a beautiful little Tin Hau temple with frescos on the outer walls, Bamboo is the sister restaurant of Black Sheep and opened in 2002. Their speciality is pizzas, cooked in a wood burning stove. Popular with the wealthy expat population and day trippers and packed at weekends, this cheerful eatery serves up shrimps with garlic, Thai soups and curries and Shanghai noodles.
