Settle down for romantic cocktails 28 floors high in the stylish Phillipe Starck-designed interior, and gaze at the view although the harbour view from the mens toilets is, apparently, even better. Not that this should detract from the food, as Felix serves Pacific Rim cuisine including Boston lobster, seared ahi tuna and Hibachi fillet of beef on sesame spinach. Noted for its excellent Shanghainese food, this large bright dining hall serves thin sliced pigs ear in spicy soy sauce, oven-smoked pigeon, spicy prawns with chilli and garlic, and steamed sea crab in yellow wine sauce. $$ Ye Shanghai, 6/F Marco Polo Hongkong Hotel, Harbour City, T 2376 3322. 1130-1500 and 1800-2400. In a stylish mix of art deco and Chinese designs inspired by 1930s Shanghai, feast on Jiangsu and Zhejang cuisine as well as Shanghainese. Strong on seafood, dishes include sautéed baby river shrimp, deep fried yellow fish and Shanghai hairy crab. Hong Kongs oldest Indian restaurant hasnt lost its touch. Newly refurbished and classy yet comfortable, the food is all freshly made and theres a great variety of meat and vegetarian dishes. Live music in the evenings, and a good value set lunch Mon-Sat. $ Beppu Menkan, G/F 107 Chatham Rd South, T 2736 8700. 1130-2400. Near the Art Museum this is a good place to drop in for lunch. An informal Japanese noodle bar, it does great ramen (thick spicy noodle soup), and also has a small selection of sashimi and rice set meals. Great value and pleasant service, with branches at Causeway Bay and Mongkok. $ Taj Mahal Club, 3/F B4, B Block Chunking Mansions, Nathan Rd, T 2722 5454. 1130-2400. One of the best Indian choices inside the 17 floors of grimy mayhem. Fresh biriyanis, paneer with garlic, and mutton Taj special. Wash it all down with mango lassi, or a masala chai. Take the staircase on the extreme left of the ground floor, rather than braving the cramped lift. $$ Amaroni's Little Italy, LG 132 Festival Walk, Kowloon Tong, T 2265 8818. 1100-2400. MTR/KCR: Kowloon Tong. Classic American Italian cuisine, which means huge portions and food for sharing. The fantastic thin-crust pizzas are ample for two, and there is a good selection of pastas and salads. A wonderfully lively atmosphere, with rows of white-clothed tables, walls plastered with Italian film posters and friendly service. $ Lucky House Seafood Restaurant, 1/F, Wong Tai Sin Shopping Centre, Wong Tai Sin, T 2327 7118. 0630-2200. MTR: Wong Tai Sin. Follow signs in the shopping centre to Chinese Restaurant. Great dim sum, 0630-1630. Chaotic and atmospheric. Little English spoken so it may be a question of pointing and taking a chance.
