This is one of several great cheap restaurants on the street, popular with locals for breakfast or a bowl of noodles after work. A pleasant alternative to Tung Chung shopping centre, this family-run restaurant is a gem with fresh tasty seafood, soups and vegetarian noodle dishes, all served up with a smile and cheap wine. Because of the location (out of the way in the old part of the town), telephone and they will collect from the airport or Tung Chung MTR. $ Tea Garden Restaurant, opposite SG Davis Hostel, Ngong Ping, T 2985 5161. If you dont fancy the dining hall din of Po Lin Monastery, this scruffy garden café is relaxed and serves up standard Cantonese dishes. Nothing elaborate mainly rice, noodles, soup and fried chicken. Cheap and cheerful. $ Yee Hen, 1 Mui Wo Cooked Food Market, T 2984 2778. By far the best food in the area. Its great Cantonese food ranges from fresh seafood to the wonderful claypots, which come to your table bubbling and steaming. Friendly, informal and cheap, it is popular with locals, but tourists rarely venture here. $ Bookworm Café, 79 Yung Shue Wan Main St, T 2982 4838. 1000-1900, 0900-2100 weekends and holidays. New Age haven with wholesome food, brunch, soups and cakes. A good selection of second-hand books, internet access (50c/min) and a popular place to sip coffee and read the paper. Very child-friendly. $ Concerto Inn Garden Café, 28 Hung Shing Ye Beach, T 2982 1668. With a fabulous location on the small beach, the terrace café is part of the hotel and has a varied menu of soups, vegetarian, Indonesian, Singaporian and Japanese main dishes. $ Deli Lamma, 36 Yung Shue Wan Main Street, T 2982 1583. One of the better venues along this street packed with endless tourist-friendly restaurants, Deli has strong Indian flavours like tandoori chicken, as well as pizzas, pastas and good breakfasts. $ Han Lok Yuen, 16-17 Hung Shing Ye, T 2982 0680. 1130-2030, Sun 1130-1900, closed Mon. This famous pigeon restaurant has an idyllic setting overlooking Hung Shing beach, although not improved by ferocious mosquitoes, popular with weekend junk boat day trippers. Roast pigeon is served whole, and the minced quail also comes recommended.
